An air source heat pump could be a viable alternative to ground source heat pumps which have been considered but for practical reasons cannot be implemented. Ideal for apartments or homes with limited outside space, the only requirement is an outside wall. There is no need for groundworks, so installation costs are kept low.
Air source heat pumps function by converting the energy of the air outside into heat, providing a pleasant temperature inside the home and also supplying energy for the domestic hot water system. As is the case with all heat pumps, air source versions are most effective when supplying low temperature systems such as underfloor heating.
